Dot Pitch - The distance between pixels (picture elements) in a display. In a CRT for HDTV, the dot pitch is typically 0.25 - 0.3 mm. For full resolution HDTV display approximately 1400 pixels are required across the screen.
Sub-channels - OTA DTV stations can show multiple programs simultaneously, subject to the 6 MHz bandwidth limit. This is called multicasting.
NTSC - (National Television System Committee technical standard) - This is analog TV invented in 1946. NTSC has 525 lines (483 visible) interlaced, 60 fields per second. This standard is in use in North America, Japan, South Korea, Burma, Taiwan, the Philippines, and much of South America.
Encryption - The process of coding signals so that a specific code or key is required by the viewer to recover the data so encrypted. Without this key, the data is meaningless. Encryption is used to provide conditional access for private television services.
CRTC - Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, the federal regulatory body for television programming and broadcasting in Canada.
Set-top Converter Box - This unit sits on top of the viewer's analog TV, receives the Digital TV signal, converts it to an analog signal, and then sends that signal on to the analog TV.
Digital - Digital refers to the circuitry in which data-carrying signals are restricted to one of two voltage levels, corresponding to logic 1 or 0.
